No fewer than 303 trees and shrubs, 22,375 perennials and 46,780 bulbs will be planted. …

Translating the vision of a Winter Garden from concept to reality took six years and the united belief of the Friends of Battersea Park, Dan Pearson Studios and Wandsworth Council in its ultimate success.

Winter GardenThe triumphant official opening by Mayor Boris Johnson on 3rd March 2011 means that all the original aims for its creation will have been met. A neglected and decaying area of the Park, which was not eligible for Heritage Lottery funding, has been transformed into a 21st Century garden of exquisite design. It has involved the local community in the restoration and enhancement of a green open space which plays an important part in their lives and is available to everyone.

The Winter Garden is a living memorial to Elaine Hodges, Founder Member and Secretary of the Friends, who did so much to improve the park in her lifetime.

The constant support and commitment of Dan Pearson Studios and Wandsworth Council to this Friends ambitious and at times daunting initiative has enabled us together to provide the park with a place that has its high point during a low point in our season. It celebrates winter with plants that provide vibrant colour from leaf fall to bud burst.
