On the 30th May 1972 the ‘Big Dipper’ roller coaster at the funfair in Battersea Park suffered failures leading to the death of five children, and injured thirteen others.
On 30th May 2022, the 50th anniversary, a Cherry Tree was planted, near the fountains, as a memorial to those lost that day. The service was reported by the BBC.
